F Gas Regulation

In line with the European Union F Gas Regulation EN842/2006, from 4th July 2009 it became a legal requirement for all businesses who install, maintain or service stationary refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat-pump (RAC) equipment that contains "F Gas" refrigerants to hold a Company Certificate issued by an appointed Company Certification Body.

STS have registered with REFCOM who have been formally appointed by Defra. In addition, the F Gas regulation requires companies and other organisations with refrigeration and air conditioning equipment to comply to a regime of equipment care. DEFRA are responsible for ensuring the regulation is complied with and have the power to prosecute offenders. All STS refrigeration engineers are trained to the required standard to meet the requirements of the legislation in order to help companies properly maintain their equipment and stay within the law.

It is now the responsibility of the owner of the Refrigeration equipment containing these refrigerants to have them regularly checked for refrigerant leakage. All relevant plant must be clearly labelled and maintained and comprehensive records kept. Records must be made available for inspection by enforcement officers. Having your equipment maintained by STS allows you to meet the requirement.
