R22/R409A Phase Out
Following the phasing out of R22/R409A refrigerant under EC2037/2000 in late 2009, it will still be permissible to use recycled gases for maintenance purposes until the end of 2014.
However, there is no guarantee on the quality and availability of the refrigerant and industry experts are predicting stocks of recycled gases to be depleted well before the end of 2014, which will inevitably result in a steep increase in the cost of the available refrigerant. If you own refrigeration or air conditioning equipment operating on R22 or R409a refrigerant, we would strongly advise that you consider reviewing your options in order to minimise the impact on your organisation, both operationally and financially.
We at STS have extensive experience in assisting clients plan for the R22/R409a phase out.
